The Challenge:

JUXTAPOSITION: The NYC Experience, Where Micro Meets Macro:
When you arrive at the starting location (the 14th Street Passage, directions below) you will be greeted by a team of AAHSFF volunteers. Our team will provide you with the official challenge itinerary. This will include the competition rules, guidelines and detailed instructions.

The challenge itinerary will also provide you with a list of 5 “photo stop” locations. These stops will include popular attractions along The High Line. Your task will be to walk The High Line, stop at each photo stop and take photographs that will depict a particular abstract theme. These themes will be outlined in your challenge itinerary. From there, it’s all up to you and your creative lens! AAHSFF volunteers will also be available at several locations throughout the walk to share unique props, offer creative advice, answer questions, and of course, to simply say HELLO!

After you complete the walk and fulfill your theme requirements you will have 10 days to sort, edit and submit your photos for judging, submissions rules can be found below. Our judges will select one winning photographer (based on the collection of all 5 final photos). The winner will be announced on Friday, October 25th via our website and social media channels.

About The High Line:

The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. Saved from demolition by neighborhood residents and the City of New York, the High Line opened in 2009 as a hybrid public space where visitors experience nature, art, and design. The High Line is more than a park. It’s a public space where you can view art, walk through gardens, experience a performance, savor delicious food, or just connect with friends and neighbors—while enjoying a unique perspective of the city.

Built on a historic, elevated freight line, the High Line has become a world-renowned inspiration for how cities can transform industrial infrastructure into beautiful, hybrid public spaces.
